The weekend of the 23th -24th April saw many of the Deepwater
Sporting Car Club members competing in the Subaru Rally Of Canberra.
This was a rally made up of two separate events, one being the
prestigious FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship and the other
being the Subaru Capital Rally. The weekend was perfect with no
rain in sight, which is unusually strange for Canberra when a
rally is about to be held, but that also meant lots of dust.
Up the front of the field we saw Juha Kangas and Julia Rabbett
in their new 2005 spec C Subaru. Juha and Julia were having a
settling period, this being their first event with the new car
and did exceptionally well placing 3rd Outright. Dean Ridge also
competed in his RS Subaru, doing very well finishing 4th outright
in the RS challenge and 7th outright in the Capital Rally.
Also competing were Peter Jerie and John Moore in
the Mitsubishi Mirage, they were competing in the Capital Rally
hoping for a P2 Class win, this was their first event together
and all was going well until a clutch failure put them out of
the rally on the last stage on the final day.
Gerald Schofield and Owen Greenwell also competed
in their Mitsubishi Lancer, after an uneventful rally, they ended
up finishing 6th in their class 18 minutes behind Simon Evans.
A good effort from all our members.
